Red Rising

by Pierce Brown
Author's Description:
“Darrow is a Helldiver. A pioneer of Mars.
Born to slave beneath the earth so that one day, future generations might live above it.
He is a Red - humankind's lowest caste. But he has something the Golds - the ruthless ruling class - will never understand.
He has a wife he worships, a family who give him strength. He has love.
And when they take that from him, all that remains is revenge . . .”
My Review - Rating - 9.5/10 I love this series. I would describe Red Rising as a more mature sci-fi version of Hunger Games, and although the series eventually shifts to focus on politics and warfare rather than individual fights, it still keeps you interested in the characters and keeps the book packed with action. I wish I could describe the plot more because I think it’s original and extremely engaging. Unfortunately, I can’t without massive spoilers, so I’m just going to let you read the book and find out more about the plot for yourself. This book is incredibly well written, constantly interesting, and very well-paced. Not only does the author make you care about the characters, but he does an excellent job of humanizing the antagonists, so it’s not all black and white, and also does a great job of creating a complex web of relationships and intrigue between the characters. This gives a lot more life to the book without being so complex that the reader gets lost. I think this is one of the best books in either genre, and it’s also a good pick for someone who isn’t all that interested in either genre. Overall, I’d highly recommend this book to any sci-fi or fantasy fan, and also anyone looking to get into sci-fi or fantasy. Find the book here
