“I'm stranded on Mars.I have no way to communicate with Earth.I'm in a habitat designed to last 31 days.If the oxygenator breaks down, I'll suffocate. If the water reclaimer breaks down, I'll die of thirst. If the hab breaches, I'll just kind of explode. If none of those things happen, I'll eventually run out of food and starve to death. So yeah. I'm screwed.”
My Review - Rating - 8.5/10
The Martian is well-written, suspenseful, funny, nerdy, interesting, and much, much, more. I’d describe it as the softest “hard sci-fi” book of all time, as everything or almost everything in it is theoretically possible in real life, and the author explains the scientific basis of the main character’s (Mark Watney) actions throughout the book. The book is consistently scientific without being boring to your average reader and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book. This is easily the best man-versus-nature book I’ve ever read, and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Even if you’ve seen the movie, go pick up this book - there’s so much more in the story than what Matt Damon could fit on the screen in two hours.
