My Review - Rating - 9/10
I loved this book series. The use of actual Chinese history (The century of humiliation and World War II) as inspiration for a fantasy book is new to me, and the author has great writing to go along with a great new premise. The entire series is well-paced, and there’s a good mix of action and character development. The series can be pretty dark, but that’s part of what makes it so interesting. There’s no promise of a happy ending, there are no clear-cut heroes and villains, just shades of evil. You don’t know who’s going to win or who will succeed, and that makes this book far more interesting than it would be if it was just a basic fantasy book in a new setting. Overall, this series not only does everything right but goes above and beyond to create a thrilling trilogy that you won’t be able to put down.
